    Huang Miaozi was a well known calligrapher, art historian and critic. He was born in Zhongshan County in Guangdong Province but lived in Hong Kong from an early age. During the 1930s he had numerous cartoons published in the Shanghai journal ‘Shidai Manhua’ (cartoons of the time) and in various other journals. He was a member of the Federation of Literary and Arts circles, council member of the Chinese Artist’s Association and Art Advisor for the English publication 'Chinese Literature'.

    Huang Miaozi visited Australia 6-27 November, 1984, with his wife Yu Feng, herself a distinguished artist, as a guest of the Australia – China Council.
