  • About

For Lloyd Rees, drawing was absolutely fundamental and remained so throughout his long and productive creative life; few other Australian artists have practised drawing more passionately or scrupulously. Indeed, when 'The bridge, South Coast landscape' was made in 1936, Rees was still immersed in a period where he focussed on drawing to the exclusion of all other media and established for himself a considerable reputation as a draughtsman of note. The drawing won Rees a Silver Medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1937 and is undoubtedly one of his finest drawings.
