About
Gosia Wlodarczak’s work encompasses performance, installation, sound and video, with a strong foundation in drawing. Her drawings are made in response to her surroundings; as they progress, recognisable shapes and objects mirroring the material world emerge within a broader network of more elusive forms and structures.
Wlodarczak aims to capture experiences and the passage of time in tangible form, at the very moment her eye alights on something. Being both aware and physically engaged within a particular time and space is a way of registering her consciousness – ‘trying to find the proof that I am alive’.
This drawing was made in the artist’s Perth home in 2002; each panel in the work was drawn from a different viewpoint within a room, each row of six making a ‘scan’ of the room, drawn while the artist was seated on the ground.
