  • About

This photograph was also taken by Bayliss for Bernard Otto Holtermann’s portfolio of images and is included in the Holtermann collection at the State Library of New South Wales. It records features of Sydney’s working harbour which have entirely disappeared. Darling Harbour, now a place of recreation, was once a major centre for industry and commerce. The Australian Gas Light Works was established in the early 1840s and docks were built for unloading coal.
