About
Tom Carment is a highly accomplished Sydney-based painter of portraits and landscape and a writer of stories and essays. He draws and paints from life as a means of exploring both the outdoors and the more intimate interior world of home and friendships.
Carment studied at Julian Ashton Art School in 1973 and has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions since 1976. He has been a finalist in several Archibald, Wynne, Sulman and Dobell Drawing Prizes and won the Mosman Art Prize in 2005 (with Adam Cullen). Most recently, his work was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at Hawkesbury Regional Art Gallery (‘People, paddocks, coastlines’ 2008), and in 2008 was included in the Hutchins Art Prize, Hobart; Salon des Refuses, SH Ervin Gallery; Blake Prize and Mosman Art Prize, among others.
The subject of this watercolour is the Botany cemetery and industrial landscape of Port Botany.
