About
Print artists now draw on a wide repertoire of techniques: the definition of prints is constantly expanding as artists draw on computer graphics, photography and other more recent technologies, as well as the more established relief and intaglio techniques, to create their images.
Certainly Risho, born in Chiba Prefecture and now living in Kanagawa, is one of the modern artists using varied techniques to create strange new worlds suspended in ambiguous super-real spaces. In this print, exotic minarets with blazing windows indicate some form of intelligent life amongst the fantastic vegetation. The organic polyp forms point to a new nature: a further extension of the artificiality of traditional bonsai which at least used natural forms. Now even the organic shapes are artificial creations, manipulated in a new space. Such worlds as this prepare us for the future of virtual reality and other computer-generated simulated realities. Risho's aim is to create new worlds of fantasy and travel guides to them.
