  • About

    Resident in Tokyo where he was educated at Nihon University, Iseki here produces a rare political print. The print is his response to the horror and pollution of the Gulf War expressed in the violent colourful and exaggerated style of an action comic. Japanese comics ('manga') are a pervasive and integral part of Japan's popular culture, a multi-billion dollar industry fervently read by everyone. 'Manga' run the gamut of the topical, the fantastic, the romantic, the horrible, and the futuristic, in potently telling their stories.

    In this print Iseki has incorporated the well-known and popular comic character '0-ba Q (a play on 'O-bake', literally Honorable Ghost) in the lower right corner of his print, with the two characters for 'anti-war' written on his chest.
