George Haynes trained at the Chelsea School of Art, London, settling in Western Australia in 1962. He established his reputation as a fine painter, draughstman and teacher during the early 1960s and 70s and continues to live and work in Perth where a major survey of his work was held in 1989 at the Art Gallery of WA. As a painter he is a remarkable colourist; while his drawings frequently employing the medium of charcoal, excel in their evocation of rich pattern and texture.
