Anne Judell's 'The order II' evokes profound themes with great mastery of her preferred media of pastel and charcoal. The artist sees her work as a vehicle for expression of archetypal forces describing her art-making as a 'sacred act'. She has stated that her aim 'is to develop a sense of light emanating from the pictures, which is attained by the tones I use and the juxtaposition of tones' (Nevill Drury and Anna Voight ‘Anne Judell' in 'Fire and shadow: spirituality in contemporary Australian art', Craftsman House, Sydney 1996, p.132).
