About
Neville Henry Pennington Cayley was an English ornithologist and artist who migrated to Australia with his family circa 1882 and is credited with contributing greatly to a popular awareness of Australian birds. He is not to be confused with his son Neville William Cayley who inheriting his father’s talent, is best-known for his book ‘What bird is that’. 'Untitled (two egrets fighting over a fish)' is typical of the artist’s classic, theatrical ‘set piece’ in which he places a particular bird type against a landscape characteristic of its habitat.
