About
This triptych is a collaboration between Kunisada and his son-in-law Kunihisa.
In allusion to the summer banquet given by Genji in his fishing pavilion, described in Chapter 26, a modern-day Genji enjoys the cool on a summer evening afforded by a restaurant platform on the banks of the Sumida River in Edo. Surrounded by a bevy of beauties, he stands to direct the attention of one of the women to a servant girl wading through the shallows with what looks like a bowl of cool noodles and sashimi.
