  • About

'The idiosyncratic and self-taught Beijing artist He Jianguo has brought both new life and new opportunity to the great tradition of Chinese brush and ink painting. A fan of Western artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne and Kandinsky, He Jianguo seeks to instill his own work with the breadth and opportunity of those Western artists whose work he so admires. His brushwork and sense of composition are both free and novel in the Chinese experience. The inscription states that this scroll was 'painted by He Jianguo in 1985 on the occasion of [his friend] Mr. Chen's sixtieth birthday'.'
