32.0 x 25.0cm image; 56.6 x 40.0cm sheet
The print is Delacroix’s first major lithograph inspired by literature. It was made shortly after his return from London in 1825. The lithograph is said to be the first work in the history of the medium to have been conceived entirely with a scraper so that the whites appear scratched back from the inky black ground.
