    Baby carriers are an important part of a woman's dowry. They are also a prestigious addition to the elaborate clothing worn by Miao people. Miao women are judged by their ability to make intricate textiles and form an elaborate outfit. The quality and sumptuousness of the textiles indicate the degree of skill a woman possesses and the wealth of her family. This piece is heavily decorated with embroidered patterns, which may symbolise Miao history and mythology. Humans, animals and plants, in addition to geometric designs, are all common design elements on Miao textiles.
