  • About

Revered for his paintings of historical figures and landscapes, Kanō Tan’yū became a painter to Japan’s military government at the age of 17. He had a great interest in Chinese and Japanese art of the past and studied it assiduously. As well as calligraphies, scroll paintings and folding screens, Tan’yū painted interiors for significant buildings, including the Imperial Palace and Nijō Castle in Kyoto and the shogun’s castle in Nagoya.
