That day

Rosella Namok is the most well known of the Lockhart River 'Art Gang', a group of young Aboriginal artists from the east coast of Cape York, who started painting in the mid 1990s and quickly shot to national fame, both for their paintings and prints. Namok held her first solo exhibition in 1999 and has since had numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally. Most recently her work was included in a survey of the work from Lockhart River at The Art Museum, University of Queensland.

The artist's statement for this works states:

"This one … that was about that day when I found out I had lost that baby. I was really upset and I wasn’t thinking about anything but about that baby gone. But now when I think … I still have Isaiah … he makes me smile everyday. It really does remind me of that day, you know."
