About
Isezaki Jun comes from a famous Bizen potting dynasty and produces both highly orthodox tea forms and abstract, sculptural works. In July he was designated a Living National Treasure, the highest accolade for a Japanese ceramic artist. The donated piece is a traditional sake bottle shape, inspired by 16C forms and fired with great skill in a simple 'anagama' kiln to achieve an effect known as 'hidasuki' (whereby sections of the vessel are wrapped with straw, which leave flashes of red when they burned off).
