About
Kanaki Toshikage was Yoshitoshi’s oldest student. This memorial portrait was published by Akiyama Buemon and reproduced in the 'Yomiuri shinbun' on 22 June 1892.
Calligraphy on the portrait reads:
yo o tsumete
terimasarishi wa
natsu no tsukiholding the night at bay
having outshone all the rest
