German-Japanese artist Kota Ezawa grew up and trained as an artist in Germany before moving to San Francisco in 1994. Working across media, Ezawa produces work using video, digital printing and computer animation. Ezawa’s computer rendering of the image produces a flattened effect that is visually reminiscent of the popular American television series, ‘South Park’. In ‘Riefenstahl’ and ‘Polaroid Land Camera’, Ezawa has selected iconic imagery that in the case of the former depicts German film director Leni Riefenstahl, and for the latter, the popular low-cost and easy-use Polaroid Land Camera 1000, which was mass-produced by Kodak in the 1980s. Manifestly these works signify the demise of analogue technology (Polaroid cameras and silver gelatin prints) and the emergence of digital processing.
