Godfrey Miller was a profoundly influential teacher, though his students remember him as more of 'a presence rather than an instructor'. He led a very private life and rarely exhibited, and only then till relatively late in his career. Miller's work was the resolution of formal concerns with the his philosophical notions of 'cosmic unity', expressed mostly in still lifes, figure studies and landscapes.
