About
Liang Dingfen (1859-1919) was a native of Panyu, Guangdong province. After gaining the 'jinshi' degree in 1880, he was appointed as the compiler at the imperial Hanlin Academy. He had served in senior official positions such as deputy governor of Hebei province, and was considered an excellent calligrapher. The calligraphy was done as a gift to Tao Zhongchen [mother of the donor of this piece, Nancy Lee].
