About
Letter from Ealan Wingate, Director, Sonnabend Gallery to John Kaldor, 16 June 1977.
“The cardboard box image on the bottom of the drawing is lithographically applied to paper. Rauschenberg was making an edition of lithographs in Tampa. As with this piece, and the making of all lithographs, various inks and ink colours and intensities were used. Usually these proofs were discarded; however, Robert Rauschenberg was interested in the individual personalities of the proofs. He had them sent to him in Captiva where he made “Hoarfrost” drawings on each one. Thus each of the works is unique. I believe there are 17 different works in this series.”
