About
Neilton Clarke was born in Sydney in 1958, and trained from 1978-83 at the UNSW College of Fine Arts. He taught at COFA from 1991-93, and the National Art School from 1990-93. In 1993 he moved to Japan, where lived and worked for 25 years until returning to Sydney. Clarke has exhibited prints, paintings, drawings and sculpture since 1983, and his work is in private and public collections in Asia and Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Machida International Museum of Graphic Art, Tokyo and Silpakorn University, Thailand. He has received a number of awards since the late 1980s, including an AGNSW Moya Dyring Scholarship to the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris in 1988, an AGNSW Dyason Bequest Award in 1998 and residencies in Thailand, Japan, and Canada.
