  • About

Born in London in 1955, Jacky Redgate emigrated to Australia with her family in 1967. She completed a Bachelor of Arts at the South Australian School of Art in 1980, a Postgraduate Diploma at Sydney College of the Arts in 1985, and a Masters of Visual Arts at The University of Sydney in 1998.

Redgate has held numerous solo exhibitions since 1979 including 'Within and Between', Sherman Galleries, Sydney (2000), 'Life of the System', Robert Lindsay Gallery, Melbourne (1999) and 'Fountain', Milburn Gallery, Brisbane (1997). Group exhibitions include 'The Numbers Game', The Adam Art Gallery, Te Pataka Toi, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (2000), 'What is this thing called photography?', Art Gallery of New South Wales (1999), 'Photography is Dead! Long Live Photography,' Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (1996), 'Australian Perspecta' (1985 & 1987), and the 'Biennale of Sydney' (1986, 1988 & 1990).

Redgate is represented in most public collections in Australia. She has been the recipient of several Australia Council grants including for the Cité des Arts, Paris 1996-97 and Kunsterprogramm des DAAD, Berlin 1987.

'Untitled Day' 2000 continues Redgate's preoccupation with systems and the relationships between objects whether in constructed environments or the supposedly mundane world of family life. In 'Untitled Day' locations on opposite sides of the world, the relationships between these and the interactions between family members and locations are explored.
