About
Dora Ohlfsen first made her name creating portraits of the rich and powerful. In her Rome studio salon, she and her partner Elena von Kügelgen would entertain nobility, leading members in the church and the literary and artistic figures who made up the sophisticated art scene in Rome.
When visiting London to arrange the sale of her Anzac medal in 1919, Ohlfsen - already highly regarded for her portrait medallions - sculpted the portraits of several leading figures. Former British Prime Minister, The Right Hon. Herbert Henry Asquith - and his immediate successor The Right Hon. D. Lloyd George - sat for Ohlfsen during her visit.
