  • About

Born in Boston, William Clift began photography at the age of 10. After many years working on architectural subjects in the city he moved to Santa Fe in 1971 and commenced photographing the landscapes of New Mexico. His landscape works are a celebration of the beauty and vastness of the American landscape, quiet yet complex and filled with cultural and spiritual meaning.

The landscape tradition is very important in American photography, with all of the major photographers across the decades including the landscape as part of their work. Clift shows the continuation of this tradition and his images have a clear affinity with the work of Ansel Adams, using a similar tonal range, textural feeling and sense of monumental scale.
