About
In 1976 Madsen was invited to participate in the 2nd Biennale of Sydney, ‘Recent international forms in art’ held at the Gallery. The 1976 Biennale is particularly important for the Gallery as it marked the beginning of the Gallery’s partnership with the Biennale of Sydney which continues to this day. Madsen sent instructional drawings for two proposed works, ‘Wood construction II’ 1976 and ‘Arch’ 1976.
‘Wood contruction II’ is constructed from three planks of wood held in place by compression only, but relies on friction against the floor and wall to prevent slipping. the sculpture was exhibited, then demolished at the close of the Biennale.
