About
A devil-may-care boldness is prevalent in this vivacious abstract painting by Angela Brennan. It makes an immediate impression with its unapologetically intense colours – dark and light blue, red and yellow - and squiggly lines that invite us to retrace the motions of Brennan’s brush as she dipped it in oil and dragged it up, down and around the surface of the canvas. There are drips, splatters and splotches of paint everywhere and uneven layers of yellow underpaint showing between the red and blue doodles, yet the work appears perfectly imperfect. Indeed, Brennan’s carefree painting reminds us that in art and life, it is sometimes OK to colour outside the lines.
