Sea, sky and city
Plein-air drawing workshop
Join us on an outdoor drawing workshop inspired by the modernist landscapes of Roy de Maistre and Roland Wakelin. Led by artist Celia Gullett, the program begins with a guided discussion of the Sydney moderns exhibition followed by a full day sketching en plein air at Berry’s Bay where Wakelin and de Maistre experimented with light, colour and form.
This workshop focuses on the use of colour, shape and treatment of space. Learn how to simplify, compose, notate form and light in the landscape, and improve your understanding and application of colour. Under Celia’s guidance, participants will complete a number of monochromatic compositional studies before translating them into colour.
Participants are asked to bring their own materials. At the Wednesday exhibition viewing and discussion, a suggested materials list will be provided along with information about where to meet at Berry’s Bay, which is located on the north side of Sydney Harbour between Waverton Peninsula and McMahons Point.
Please note that you must be 18 or older to participate in this workshop.
