Reflecting the Renaissance painting workshop

Join artist Celia Gullett in this intensive three-part oil painting workshop.

From direct observation of Beccafumi’s Madonna and Child with infant John the Baptist c1542 in the Gallery’s collection, Celia will guide you step by step through traditional techniques used by the old masters to build a painting in layers. Beginning with a tonal underpainting, a full explanation of how to paint drapery and flesh will be given. The application of glazes and flesh tones will be discussed and you will gain knowledge and techniques which can be applied to your own practice in the studio.

It is essential for students to have reasonable drafting skills and some experience with oils.

About Celia Gullett

Celia has studied and taught at both East Sydney Tech (now known as the National Art School) and at COFA. She attended the Charlie Sheard Studio School in Redfern to learn historic oil painting techniques which formed the basis of the year-long course she designed to communicate her practical knowledge with students of similar interests. Celia has been coordinating this extensive course in oil painting for eight years in the painting school that she founded in Annandale.
