Introduction to soft sculpture BOOKED OUT
Stitch your own pop-inspired sculpture
Rebel against ‘high art’ and explore soft sculpture with visual artist Alex Falkiner in this workshop inspired by the Pop to popism exhibition.
Using the work of Claes Oldenburg as a starting point, the workshop will flip pop’s love of mass-production on its head as you are encouraged to work with your hands to create one-off pieces. Working in a small scale, you’ll develop confidence with test models in paper followed by hand-stitched pieces from fabric. You’ll experiment with a variety of techniques to get you constructing (and thinking) in 3D.
Alex has a background in costume and pattern-making and will translate and share these skills so they can be easily applied to the world of fabric sculpture.
Join Alex and Contempo to puff, stuff, droop and squish your way to a soft sculpture of your own!
