Book launch: Humour in Chinese Life and Letters

Lecture by Jocelyn Chey and launch by China expert Stephen Fitzgerald

Humour in Chinese life and letters: classical and traditional approaches draws together essays on humour and laughter in their many forms of expression in Chinese culture past and present.

Verbal, visual and behavioural modes of humour are explored by specialists in fields ranging from cultural and political history to linguistics, literature, drama and the history and philosophy of science. Professor Jocelyn Chey AM will give an illustrated lecture on Youmo: the Chinese sense of humour and Dr Stephen Fitzgerald AO, Australia’s first Ambassador to China, will formally launch the book. Following this, meet the book’s editors, Prof Jocelyn Chey and Dr Jessica Milner Davis, for a book signing.

This event is co-presented with China Studies Centre and The University of Sydney and is part of the 2012 City of Sydney Chinese New Year Festival, celebrating the Year of the Dragon.
