Art Club 2013

A monthly art program for children aged 9–12

These monthly classes will broaden your child’s knowledge of art and develop their own artistic ability. With each class focusing on a medium and technique, the children will also explore the Gallery and gather inspiration for their own artwork.

Art Club runs one weekend every month, with three sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday sessions are open to any child aged 9-12. Sunday sessions are for the children of Art Gallery Society of NSW members only.

Cancellations:
Three full working days (Mon–Fri) notice is required to qualify for a refund. All refunds attract an administration charge of 25% of the ticket price(s) with a minimum charge of $5. With subscription tickets there are no refunds for single sessions, unless a session is cancelled. Not negotiable.

Ink and wash self-portraits

Looking at the portraits of Joy Hester, we create a self-portrait, revealing emotion, in black ink and wash, using quick, spontaneous lines.

Mythological clay sculptures

Dragons are symbolic creatures in the folklore and mythology of Vietnam and feature frequently in Vietnamese ceramics. After a visit to the Asian gallery we sculpt a dragon out of clay.

Renaissance charcoal drawing

Inspired by Renaissance artists, we draw clasped hands with charcoal, using light and shade to create depth and feeling.

Monoprinting: Paul Klee

Studying the work of Paul Klee, we use coloured inks to create an inspired monoprint using a printing press.

Sydney landscape etching

Using a printing press we produce a drypoint etching looking at our own Sydney city landscape and drawing from the Gallery space. We are inspired to view through a window, a theme often used by artists.

Chalk pastel animal portraits

Looking at Albert Tucker’s Apocalyptic horse, we produce a chalk pastel study of an animal head using a coloured ground.
