We would like to draw your attention to the Gallery Orientation sessions for tertiary students at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. These sessions can provide a very useful and time-effective way of introducing your classes to the collections and resources available at the Gallery, and to the particular benefits of these for tertiary study. At the Gallery, we recognise that each university department or tertiary art school is unique in its particular emphasis upon different aspects of history, theory and practice, and consequently we would undertake to tailor orientation sessions according to the requested needs of each tertiary institution. Gallery Orientations commonly address issues such as the history of the Art Gallery and of its collections and archives, curatorial practice, exhibition management, public and education programs, and online resources. Introductory talks are delivered by specialists from the relevant departments within the Gallery, and, to ensure the availability of these speakers, bookings should be made at least four weeks in advance. Gallery Orientations may vary in duration, from between two hours and a full day: again, according to the wishes of the visiting institution and the availability of Gallery staff. This service is offered free to NSW-based publicly-funded tertiary audiences. For non-NSW students and groups from privately-funded institutions, there are fees for the use of the Gallery lecturers, AV staff and lecture theatre.
