My design approach was unusual: experimentation informed concept, not the reverse. I used bitumen, paint and turps to deface, deform and destroy magazine images, then combined these with drawings about my background in boxing, a sport associated with violence rather than beauty and finesse. Unintentionally I was venting anger through my art - towards powerful people, the gloatingly successful and vainly beautiful.
