Real isn’t how you’re made. It’s a thing that happens to you
Collection of works

Kildare Catholic College A childhood relic, discovered in a shoe box coffin, was the inspiration for my body of work. This dilapidated toy rabbit is a remnant of a relationship where idolatry turned to difference. This icon has been resurrected and forced to adapt to a new and unfamiliar environment. Is this loss of identity fair? Should individuals be forced to change in order to maintain their importance? These are the issues I have explored through my artwork. The title is an extract from the popular children’s book The Velveteen Rabbit. It is our experiences that shape us, not our origins. My rabbit has, quite literally, been loved to death. There is always choice; some see the beauty, others cannot look past the scars. Ultimately, the choice is irrelevant. What matters is that a small one eared bunny was given the chance to tell its story.
