The remnants of an inscription were found during a detailed conservation examination on the foremost dog's collar lower centre. The inscription is in brown paint on a yellow ochre coloured background. It is worn and obscured by discoloured varnish making it difficult to decipher but appears to read:

F. Snyd... fecit

The pigment of the inscription and the pigment of the base paint are probably both iron oxide making differentiation between the two layers difficult with standard analytical instrumentation.
