The Art Gallery of New South Wales has reluctantly decided not to present the Photographic Portrait Prize in 2007. This was a difficult decision as the prize has been a popular event at the Gallery since it inception in 2003. However, it has proved necessary to reduce the number of exhibitions in the Gallery’s program and this has included discontinuing the Photographic Portrait Prize.

Photography will continue to feature prominently at the Gallery, both in collection displays and in major photographic exhibitions. The contemporary galleries on level 2 will exhibit photography as part of their program of collection changeovers. The popular Australian focus series includes works from the photographic collections.

The Gallery thanks all artists who have contributed work to the Photographic Portrait Prizes and to Citigroup for its support of the prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
